Cool Tip

If you are like me and always need to be working on something to keep your anxiety under control, during this quarentine why not helping scientists by looking at pictures of some neat penguins? or even galaxies?
There’s this site call Zooniverse, where you can help on scientific projects by analyzing pictures and data!

Right now my favorite project has returned, called Penguin Watch (where yeah, you get to watch penguins, it’s amazing)

you basically have to analyse photos looking for penguins, their chicks, eggs or even predators and human interaction

But there are lots of interesting projects you can help in areas such as biology, physics, history or even art:

Oh and the best part, some institutions even accept it as volunteering/service hour requirements for graduation and scholarships!!
It’s helping me a lot during this time, so I thought it was worth sharing

michellepsychologist:

Imposter Syndrome

Feeling inadequate or like a fraud even after success. People diminish their successes by attributing it to luck or good timing. Individuals doubt their accomplishments, skills, and capabilities.

Steps to minimize the effects of imposter syndrome:

  • Awareness: recognize imposter feelings and thoughts.
  • Reframe your mental schemes: recognize that doubts of not knowing the outcome is normal. Remind yourself it is okay to not know everything.
  • Speak about it: talking to trustful friends and family can help you put into perspective your concerns. It may even surprise you that they may feel the same way about themselves.
  • Reframe your inner dialogue: each time you catch yourself saying something negative, challenge it. For example, “I feel like a fake” to “I’ve worked hard for this”.

If you do end up failing or getting an outcome you do not like. Be kind to yourself. Keep in mind not everything is achieved or won on first try. Look for the lessons and ask for support if needed.

If you do succeed recognize that feelings of imposter syndrome may be due to the fear of success, or labels your parents, teachers, and acquaintances put on you growing up.
